About Us

Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association is a not-for-profit organisation that has been helping people with a disability to lead active, healthy lives and achieve their sporting dreams since 1977.

We support people with a range of physical disabilities including spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury, amputations and cerebral palsy, as well as people with vision impairment (partial or total vision loss).

By providing access to sport and healthy activity opportunities, we can help people with a disability to improve their physical, social and mental wellbeing.

Funds raised through the Gold Choice Lottery are used to:

  • provide financial support to athletes with a disability to attend state, national and international competitions and training camps
  • run regular social competitions and training sessions in a range of sports including wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby and goalball (for people with vision impairment)
  • run regional, state and national championships for athletes with a disability
  • purchase and maintain modified sport and fitness equipment such as wheelchair basketball chairs and handcycles
  • provide subsidised recreational activities for members
  • deliver fitness and rehabilitation services at our Brisbane gym
  • provide a free advisory service to help people with a disability into sport, recreation and fitness

We rely on generous supporters such as our Gold Choice Lottery ticket buyers to ensure we assist as many people with a disability as possible.
